Still going to live shows? Let us know who you've seen or are going to. Mini reviews welcome, of course!

I'll start my own thread by digging a bit far back to chat about seeing Gillian Welch and Dave Wrawlings at the Wilbur Theater in Boston late last year. We had great seats in this old-style, multi-balcony stage. They were phenominal and effortless, as expected and it was a joy to see David's fingers fly around the strings and fretboard. Gillian's voice was perfect, and I came away thinkng David's voice (and voicings) have improved over the years as well.

Next up was going to see the Eagles at the Sphere last February (Aw Man! I know you hate the fucking Eagles!). This venue was all it's hyped up to be, I must say. The visuals were a blast. If you book Sphere tickets look around Section 200 to be in the sweet spot....not too close to miss what's going on in front, above and behind you.

The band was pretty good too. They stuck to their hits, which I expected, instead of my more-favored deep cuts like "Certain Kind of Fool", but the sound was excellent. Joe was his typical goofy self (which I am growning tired of, knowing he has so much more to offer) and Vince Gill held his own too. Being pretty far back I could barely tell that Henley was lip-syncing ;)

We went into Vegas just for the show then got the hell outta there to visit Healdsburg, CA for some nice vineyards.

I had a long null in going to shows, getting ourselves ready for my daughters (blast of a ) wedding, but last week my wife and I saw Nick Lowe and Los Straightjackets at our (very) local Payomet Performing Arts tent. Great seats at a table (honest) way up front. This show was a treat. Nick was in very good form and has a long history of playing the the Jackets so everything was very tight. I enjoyed Nick's oldies, but honestly I enjoyed their original songs even more.

They are still out there, so highly recommended to see.

I went to a couple of blues shows recently. I've had other shows get canceled due to artist illness.Let's face it, I'm 73 and younger than many of the touring acts out there. People get sick and you take your chances.

Next up is George Thorogood and the Destroyers. I've seen them before and I just hope they can get the kind of pristine sound that made their last show so memorable. Really. Opening is THE ARTIMUS PYLE BAND - HONORING RONNIE VAN ZANT’S LYNYRD SKYNYRD. Hmmm.

I saw a good bluegrass concert last night by an artist named Jonas Friddle. He originally was from North Carolina but has lived in the Chicago area for the last 17 years. He played the guitar and the Banjo. He’s well worth checking out if he comes to your area……Btw the show was at my local library for free.

Going to see Jake Shimabukuro tonight at our nearby Payomet performing arts center. Not a bad seat in the tent. We saw Jake here last year and he was out front before the show helping to set up tables and chairs. A truly sincere and nice guy. Hope he plays this again...

Duane Betts and Palmetto Hotel plays tomorrow night as well. Could be a good finish to the season for me. 8-)
