"Materialists" at the local AMC theater. "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days" this is not. My wife loves a rom-com but found these characters tepid and uninspiring. She doesn't care who gets together with whom. I'm not fond of these folks either though I did find the the matchmaker angle unique. You can wait for streaming if you want, or simply avoid the thing altogether.

I watched John Wick 4 over the weekend. Eh. I like this series but any attempt at even pretending to have a plot ended after #2. This is just loose connections between massive fight set-pieces. There is NO plot. Only bonus, first time I got yelled at to turn it down in the new house.

Family member. On that note, I have to say SVS SB-3000 hit HARD. I was fully prepared for some severe limitations of the new subs. I had planned to get two PB-3000s but a local retailer here stocks SVS and when I went in to order all the HT gear I was looking at them and I was like "I can't... The aesthetic of the room is actually important. I don't want two mini-fridges drawing all the attention in the room."
So I jumped on the web on the store and found the Audioholics review and test of the SB vs PB 3000 and called an audible and went with the much smaller sealed subs. I'm glad I did. They are plenty loud.

The Old Guard 2 on Netflix. We enjoyed the first one with Charlese Theron leading a team of immortals fighting evildoers. We did not enjoy the second one nearly as much. If you want loud action devoid of substance, this is for you. 2 starts for the subwoofer work-out.

Went and saw the new Superman last night with one of my daughters. It was fine. Not terrible, not great. She liked it way more than I did. I grew up on Richard Donner Superman. I know a lot of the stuff in the movie is from the comics but having all the other crazy meta humans made it feel like an MCU movie. I don't know. It was OK.

Otherwise I have no desire to see Superman.

The Penguin Lessons starring Steve Coogan and Johnathan Price and a live penguin or two. It's rare that a small, heartwarming movie is not trite or full of cliches, even if it is a bit predictable. I really enjoyed this, found quite a few moments of humor, and recommend it for light viewing. In English and subtitled Spanish. Three stars.

Re: Nobody 2
Currently on the big screen, starring Bob Odenkirk as a lackluster suburban dad, but with skills! Think Wick on acid.
Mindless entertainment? Right up my alley.
