Any other golfers?
Any other golfers?
I picked up golf during the pandemic and became an ADDICT. I play 90% of the weekends in season, both on Saturday and Sunday. I met a random guy on the course at the end of the 2023 season and we played probably 65 rounds together in 2024. I've also gotten to play some pretty awesome places on work trips including:

My parents are big golfers, they started later in life, probably when I was a junior or senior in high school. I played semi-frequently when I was younger with them, then I had kids. And my kids play sports, and I’m still helping with my oldest daughter’s team so thats pretty much what my family does. My parents were always active with me and my sisters sports too, so thats why they didn’t really start playing until we could both drive, theres just no time!

LOL, something I learned running the other forum is you don't want your normal ID to be a site admin. Its fine to be a moderator, but you don't want to be logged in as admin all the time. So I was flipping between IDs and accidentally started this thread as the admin ID.Chris S wrote: Sat Feb 08, 2025 8:15 am *weird, I was posting a reply and the topic disappeared. The time factor is a big reason why I stopped golfing. I graduated from college and immediately started a family. My kids are 20, 18 and 14 now though so I have the time and really enjoy it. Plus (and I need to work on this) its some of the only exercise I get (I walk all my "home course" rounds).
Re: Any other golfers?
I've been a golfer most of my life. On and off, though, as conditions (in life) permit. Unfortunately the past 5-7 years have been quite dry from a golfing standpoint. We moved away from our old neighborhood, where I also had a club membership (baller!), and it made less sense to keep the membership. I've not kept it up with public facilities or courses. Shame, I think. I was down to a 9 handicap--which I worked my ass off to achieve, and it ain't like riding a bike. No telling where I'm at now. Maybe when the kids are out of the house I'll get back to it.
Re: Any other golfers?
I got in 3 rounds this weekend. All three lowered my handicap. I've been grinding and its paying off little by little. I'm down from a 24.4 to an 18.2 in a little over a year. My original goal when I started keeping a handicap was to get to an 18. Like most golfers, I'm going to move the goalpost. I'd love to get to a 15 this year. I have the ability to practice a LOT more now.
Re: Any other golfers?
I was very intentional with my practice while working my way down to single digits. Also, I put it a *lot* of reps. More time practicing than playing.CJ wrote: Tue May 27, 2025 7:51 am I got in 3 rounds this weekend. All three lowered my handicap. I've been grinding and its paying off little by little. Re: Any other golfers?
I need to be practicing. We put a very nice golf sim in the new house and it isn't as if I haven't used it, but not as much as I should. I can't not practice and expect to get better.
I did finish the season at a 16.x handicap, so I didn't quite make the goal of 15. Hopefully in 2026 I can get a couple more strokes off. I'm averaging probably 2-4 strokes per season reducing my handicap.

Re: Any other golfers?
As you can imagine, the distance between 15 and 10 is an order of magnitude farther than the distance from 20 to 15. No mulligans, no gimmes, no shortcuts. I'll be here to not cut you any slack as needed.CJ wrote: Sat Jan 10, 2026 1:56 pm I need to be practicing. Re: Any other golfers?
I've been practicing every couple of days now. I know almost all of the issues with my swing stem from early extension. I get to the top of the swing and just dump the club. When I get to impact I'm standing up and raising my hands. This is leading to toe shots, fat shots, sticking the toe into the turf which opens the face. I've been focusing on keeping my butt back and the feeling that my trail arm swings under. There's a drill where you put your lead arm on a long club and do swings with your trail arm, like this... that's the feel I'm working on.
