Quick movie reviews

Post by DYohn »

Quick movie reviews.

My first one:

"Star Trek: Section 31." I was excited about a new premise inside the Star Trek universe. The film was horribly campy and silly, and I dumped out at the 20-minute mark. Disappointed.

-edited. Thanks for catching the error

Concise! I like it. Lots of derivative dreck these. Feels like its maybe winding down after the peak of the Marvel era (most of which I enjoyed, for the record). But, way too many reboots, TV series of movies and vice vera, movies of recent books, just nothing original.

Weird TV shows is my refuge.

I will check the TV section to look into your comments.

Speaking of derivative reboots, we watched Ridley Scott's "Gladiator II" instead of the football game Sunday. If you liked the first one, you'll probably like this one because it was pretty much the exact same movie with many of the exact same characters, even including flashbacks to the original movie.

Never even heard of this one. Sounds like I'm not missing anything.

The main problem with Section 31 (not 13!) is that it just doesn’t “feel” like Star Trek. I never really thought Discovery did either, and this was more of that vibe.

Watched The Gorge last night on Apple TV with my wife. It was entertaining for both of us. Took us on a roller coaster ride without leaving the house.

This is on my list (along with 7,000 hours of other TV and movies I may never get to :D)

"Becoming Led Zeppelin" is a documentary on the band's first 18 months or so. It contains some classic performance clips, digitally modified to make the original distorted audio remarkably tolerable. I saw the film at the local IMAX and really enjoyed it. 8-)

My wife and I enjoyed this film last night. Several twists and turns kept us involved and entertained. No action, of course, but thought provoking and interesting watching the process.
